A meeting chair is designed primarily for conference rooms, meeting spaces, collaboration areas and visitor seating. Unlike an office task chair, which is intended for extended periods of desk work and usually includes multiple ergonomic adjustments, meeting chairs typically have a simpler design with fewer controls. They prioritise comfort, appearance, easy movement and efficient use of space.
As a general guide, allow around 600β900 mm behind occupied meeting chairs so people can sit down, stand up and move comfortably. In areas where people need to walk behind seated attendees, additional clearance may be required. The exact spacing will depend on the chair size, table dimensions and room layout.
Compare the armrest height of the chair with the clearance underneath the table. The armrests need to sit lower than the underside of the tabletop or table frame if you want the chairs to tuck fully underneath. Always check for support rails, beams or other structures beneath the table that could reduce available clearance.
Most standard meeting and boardroom tables are approximately 720β750 mm high, so a chair with a seat height of around 430β500 mm is generally suitable. This provides comfortable legroom for most users. Adjustable-height meeting chairs can be particularly useful where the space is used by a wide range of people.
Cleaning requirements depend on the chair material. Fabric chairs should be vacuumed regularly and spot-cleaned using a suitable upholstery cleaner, while mesh can usually be cleaned with a soft brush or damp cloth. Vinyl, polypropylene and many synthetic surfaces can be wiped clean with mild soap and water. Always follow the manufacturer's care instructions, and periodically check screws, castors, glides and moving components to keep the chair safe and in good condition.
