A corner workstation is an L-shaped office desk designed to fit into a room corner or create an efficient workstation within an open-plan office. It provides a larger work surface than a standard straight desk, giving users extra space for computers, paperwork, storage and accessories while making good use of available floor space.
Measure the length of both walls where the workstation will sit, along with the available depth and any nearby doors, windows, power points or walkways. Allow enough clearance for the office chair to move comfortably and ensure drawers, pedestals and cupboards can open without obstruction. It is also important to check whether the return needs to be positioned on the left or right side.
Your primary monitor should generally be positioned directly in front of you so you can work without repeatedly twisting your neck or upper body. Place the screen roughly an arm’s length away and adjust its height so the top of the display is around eye level. If using two monitors equally, position them close together and centred around your normal viewing position.
Corner workstations can be paired with a wide range of office storage, including mobile pedestals, fixed drawer units, filing cabinets, credenzas, cupboards, bookcases and overhead hutches. The best option depends on the amount of storage required and the available floor space. Mobile pedestals are particularly popular because they can fit underneath the desk and be repositioned when required.
For a commercial corner workstation, look for a warranty that covers the desk frame, worktop and structural components against manufacturing defects. Warranty periods vary between manufacturers, with many commercial office furniture ranges offering several years of coverage. It is also worth checking what the warranty excludes, whether it applies to commercial use and whether replacement parts remain available.
