Noise reduction varies by pod design, materials and construction. Higher-performance acoustic pods can achieve around 25–30 dB or more of speech level reduction, which can significantly reduce how clearly conversations are heard outside the pod. Some premium pods achieve Class A performance at approximately 30 dB when tested to ISO 23351-1.
Acoustic pods provide private, quiet spaces without the need to construct permanent rooms. They can reduce distractions in open-plan offices, improve speech privacy, provide dedicated spaces for phone and video calls, support focused work and small meetings, and can often be relocated as workplace requirements change.
Look for pods tested to ISO 23351-1, which provides a standardised method for measuring how effectively a pod reduces speech travelling from inside to outside. As a guide, a speech level reduction of 25 dB or greater provides strong speech privacy, while Class A products typically achieve around 30–33 dB. Comparing independently tested ISO ratings is more meaningful than relying solely on claims that a pod is “soundproof.”
Most acoustic pods use integrated mechanical ventilation fans that continuously circulate fresh air through the pod while it is occupied. Better systems are designed to move substantial volumes of air without creating distracting fan noise, and some allow users to adjust airflow from inside the pod. Certain models also automatically increase ventilation after use to refresh the air before the next person enters.
Yes. Many acoustic pods can be configured with power, USB charging, data and Ethernet/LAN connections, making them suitable for video conferencing, computers and other connected equipment. Availability varies by model, so Ethernet may be standard on some pods and an optional upgrade on others; for example, Framery lists an optional LAN port alongside integrated power and USB-C connectivity.
