A flip chart is a presentation easel designed to hold large sheets of paper, allowing users to write, draw and display information to a group. Flip charts are commonly used for meetings, brainstorming sessions, training, workshops, classrooms and presentations, where ideas can be recorded and referred back to throughout the session.
A tripod flip chart is a good choice if you need something lightweight, easy to fold and simple to transport or store. A mobile flip chart is better for workplaces, classrooms and training rooms where the board is moved frequently, as the wheeled base makes repositioning easier and generally provides greater stability.
Many flip charts are height adjustable, allowing the writing surface to be positioned comfortably for different users. Tripod models often use adjustable legs, while mobile flip charts may have an adjustable frame or support column. Always check the individual product specifications, as adjustment ranges vary between models.
Some flip charts have a magnetic whiteboard surface, while others are designed primarily as paper holders. Magnetic models allow you to attach notes, documents and accessories with magnets while also using the surface as a dry-erase whiteboard. If magnetic functionality is important, check that the product specifically states it has a magnetic surface.
Marker ink can bleed through thinner flip chart paper, particularly when using heavy-ink or permanent markers. For best results, choose good-quality, bleed-resistant flip chart paper and use markers specifically designed for flip charts or water-based presentation markers. Placing a spare sheet behind the page can also help protect the sheet underneath.
